Samania saman

Samanea Saman, commonly known as the Rain Tree, is an impressive tropical tree renowned for its vast, umbrella-shaped canopy that provides abundant shade. Reaching heights of 15 to 25 meters, the Rain Tree is characterized by its broad, spreading branches that create a magnificent, shady refuge, making it a popular choice for parks, gardens, and urban areas.

The tree features compound leaves that fold inwards at night and during cloudy weather, an adaptation that has led to its name. In late spring to early summer, the Samanea Saman produces clusters of fragrant, pinkish-white flowers that bloom in large, fluffy globes. These attractive blossoms not only enhance the tree’s ornamental appeal but also attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, contributing to the local ecosystem.

Adaptable to a range of soil types, the Rain Tree thrives in well-drained soils and prefers full sun, making it suitable for tropical and subtropical climates. Its rapid growth rate and ability to withstand drought conditions make it a low-maintenance option for landscape designers and gardeners.
