Acacia catechu

Acacia catechu, commonly known as Khair Tree or Black Catechu, is a species native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. This medium-sized deciduous tree is well-known for its durable timber, medicinal properties, and production of catechu—a tannin-rich extract used in dyes, tanning, and traditional medicine.

As a nitrogen-fixing tree, Acacia catechu enhances soil fertility by adding nitrogen to the soil, benefiting surrounding plants and crops.

Acacia catechu is a multipurpose tree with significant economic, medicinal, and environmental benefits. Its high-quality timber, tannin-rich extract, and medicinal applications make it an important species in industries ranging from timber production to traditional medicine. Additionally, its role in soil improvement, erosion control, and land reclamation highlights its ecological importance in sustainable forestry and agroforestry practices.
